COSMOS-2 aims at developing novel scientific and technical guidelines for maximizing safe geological storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) in deep saline aquifer formations. This will be achieved by verifying CO2 injection and migration processes, while assessing and mitigating the risk of storage leakage through the cap rock or wells. The three main components of COSMOS-2 project are: (1) the monitoring of the CO2 migration in the reservoir using electrical imaging technology, and the development of measurement interpretation techniques for a quantitative analysis of these measurements, (2) the modeling and monitoring of wellbore integrity using permanent sensors and cased-hole logging techniques, (3) the modeling and monitoring of the cap rock integrity during the injection phase. These technologies will be applied in the scope of Ketzin CO2 injection project.
