Biography

Frédéric Dias is an applied mathematician with a PhD in Civil Engineering who has made numerous pioneering contributions during his career that have significantly advanced the field of fluid dynamics. He has been the leader of an innovative, world-class research group in fluid mechanics for the past 10 years and the quality and impact of his research is recognized worldwide.  In 2010 he has received a large research award from SFI (Science Foundation Ireland) to build the first group in ocean wave energy at University College Dublin together with Aquamarine Power. In 2011 he was awarded a prestigious ERC Advanced Grant on the formation of extreme waves, together with Prof. John Dudley, a physicist who has made numerous pioneering contributions in nonlinear optical physics.
