Graduated from ENSTA ( Ecole Nationale de Techniques Avancées) in 1975 as Ocean Engineer.

He joined Ifremer ( Institut Français de Recherche pour l’Exploitation de la Mer, formerly CNEXO) in 1977,where he was first in charge of simulation tasks  within the scope of a polymetallic nodule mining development program

From 1980 to 1985, he was involved in research and feasibility studies in the field of marine renewable energy; in particular wave and ocean thermal energy.

Since 1985, he has performed research and computational activities related to the behaviour of flexible slender structures( towing and deployment cables, mooring lines, risers, umbilicals). He has conducted a number of at-sea experiments to collect data on towed or cable-deployed systems in order to validate numerical models. He also conducted a number of experiments in Ifremer ocean engineering tank on the dynamic behaviour of mooring lines and steel catenary risers.

He is currently coordinating Ifremer research, testing and expertise activities related to the behaviour of structures in marine environment and he is head of Ifremer hydrodynamic and metocean laboratory, member of Marinet (

He is a member of the CLAR_OM (French club for research activities on offshore structures) board.
